Mid-30s here. A lot of the fan artists/authors I know, I've known for like 8-10 years, and they were about the same age I was back when we met... so I assume they must be about the same age as me now! ;) And I've run into many fans who are older than we are!

So nope - you don't have to stop. There are certain things you may want to be careful about as you get older, though. I was mildly freaked out when a cosplayer I was going to be in a group with who wanted to take suggestive pictures with me in costume posted a gripe about being too young to buy spraypaint in NY - apparently under 21 - though she probably didn't realize I was as old as I am either. I was carded earlier this year for a 16+ panel, and I tend to get double-takes when people see the year on my ID. ;) But as long as everyone's legal and not being stupid about stuff... I mean, I wouldn't want to be in a smut RP with a partner who's a minor for obvious reasons. Or take suggestive pictures with a minor. But nearly everyone I associate with regularly in fandom is at least 25. We're not an endangered species. :D
