I don't think you're ever too old for fandom, just maybe too old for obsessive fandoming.

Like reading fic all day when I was 14 was no biggie, but when I was 24 and should be working and/or doing schoolwork, time is limited. As I've gotten older, I consume more media and occasionally get the creativity to write fic, but I do less fannish stuff. I've got people on my flist who've got kids, full time jobs, and fandom seems to be their main relaxation method, but it's obvious they don't spend all their freetime doing it.
