Re: Christmas Parties

My internship last year had a nice Christmas party that was basically just an open bar and dinner at a very high-class restaurant. Er, not really a restaurant; it was the Harvard Club. We were up on the thirteenth floor or so, with a live piano and floor-to-ceiling windows so we got a great view of the city. I think a cocktail hour and sit-down dinner could work if you found a really great place for it, but with time so limited, you might be out of luck.

One thing I do not recommend is what that office had for a party the year before - dinner and drinks on a boat. People said it was awful, since no one could leave until the boat docked and they were stuck there far later than they wanted to be. Keep in mind, when planning something, let people have escape routes.

I don't know what your office atmosphere it like, but keeping it low-key might be a good idea, too, since a lot of people get stressed out near the holidays.
