Haven't you ever bookmarked something, thinking it's the most amazing thing ever? Then you go back years later, and it's really not that good? It's still the same fic. Yet, the quality's changed without any alteration to the writing.

Someone's going to scroll thru fics and go "ugh!" every time your name appears. And someone else is going to squeal and show all their friends when they're done. You shouldn't worry about it too much. (I'm personally pleased at the thought my work drives someone up the wall. It's kinda like payback.)

Yes! This is very true, and what a beautiful way of saying it. You can't ever please everyone nor should you spend your time trying to, so just do your best and hope it pleases someone. If it has, you've succeeded!

This. I remember wank about me some years back, complete with how bad my writing was, and just feeling completely crushed -- but there also have always been people who read me and appreciate my stuff. So... that's a reason to keep posting it, regardless.

Some people really are just good, some people really are just bad. But the vast majority of everything is a matter of taste and interest.

and I totally get the sentiment of getting some enjoyment from "the thought my work drives someone up the wall". especially in fandoms where fans seem to spend more time whining about the lack of fanworks than actually contributing to their production.
