Not really creepy but weird?

(Anonymous) 2012-10-12 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
My grandmother told me this story she witnessed/heard first-hand when she was a little girl in Korea.

There was a woman in her neighborhood who had a son in poor health. There was a rumor that eating a cat's umbilical cord(?)* would restore health. So this woman adopted a female stray cat and every time she fed her, she would say "Eat well, but when you give birth, you have to give me the umbilical cord* for my son." Eventually, the cat got pregnant and disappeared. Then one day, she returned to the woman with the umbilical cord* in her mouth and tears streaming down her eyes. The cat gave the woman the umbilical cord* and left. The woman never saw the cat again but prepared the umbilical cord* for her son. Her son recovered full health shortly after.

It sounds like some sort of urban legend but my grandma swears it really happened. She saw the woman feeding the cat several times, heard that she got the umbilical cord* from the cat, and saw the son around the neighborhood soon after.

*I'm not sure if that's what it really is. According to my grandma, it is something the mother cat has to eat after giving birth or she can't ever have kittens again. Might not be scientifically true but... *shrugs*

The placenta? Many animals eat their own placenta after giving birth, including herbivores like goats and the musk ox.

That may be it, too. I'll have to consult a dictionary to be sure though.
