I'll star this as soon as I finish my other comic book because I suck at multi reading but is the reason they fight for?

(Anonymous) 2012-10-12 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
They're fighting over Hope because the Phoenix is coming again and going for Hope, which the Avengers want to stop.

Everything would have transitioned smoothly if they'd just like hope go, like HOPE HERSELF wanted to.

Scarlett Witch would have been there. It still would have worked. All Cyclops did was kill countless people so so that it could happen on his watch.

And once corrupted Cyclops didn't want to give it to Hope. Specifically tried not to in fact. He was right about shit once he got a costume change.

Dude couldn't even figure out how fautls work.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-12 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
It's the Avengers' fault for trying to destroy the Phoenix and making it possess the five X-Men instead of Hope.

Because when it destroys not one but two planets on the way, and it's CLEARLY MAD, you rely on the prayer that maybe everything will be okay this time.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-12 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe they should have listened to the people who actually had a history with the Phoenix then. All they did was push the Phoenix onto five people who had no preparation for instead of the one person who had been training all her life for it.
insanenoodlyguy: (Default)

[personal profile] insanenoodlyguy 2012-10-12 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
That's the prayer I was just talking about.

It's not like Hope would have been any less able to get the phoenix if she was in space.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-13 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
If all Cap wanted to do was have Hope wait for the Phoenix on the moon, I don't think Cyclops would have objected.
insanenoodlyguy: (Default)

[personal profile] insanenoodlyguy 2012-10-13 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
Even Hope herself thought it was a good idea! But Cyclops was a better Magneto then Magneto has been for years and wasn't having it.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-13 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
Really? When did Cyclops object to having Hope wait for the Phoenix on the moon?

You're missing so many points here that I can't even bring myself to try to correct you because it's 3 in the goddamned morning.

Captain America is never wrong about anything ever.

I'll admit, I haven't been following AvX because I couldn't be bothered to care. All the secrets about it have just made me care that much less, I think I now give a negative number of fucks.

So they killed someone off in a crossover. *Yawn* That is -10 more fucks that I give. Seriously Marvel, this stopped being "shocking" about 20 crossovers ago.

a negative number of fucks.

XD Permission to borrow this phrase good sir/madam?

(Anonymous) 2012-10-12 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Go ahead, I probably borrowed it from somewhere myself.

They were both wrong.

And Cyclops (and Hope and Wanda) turning a lot of people into mutants is terrible. Not all mutants powers are cool and pretty and they should be aware of it.

I'm just jumping on the no fucks given boat here. Seriously, as soon as they announced this POS all I could picture was a bunch of Marvel staff sitting around, shrugging their shoulders because they're plum out of ideas and saying "Hey, it worked in Civil War!"

Same result. Everyone was a douchebag, nobody was really right and there was not middle ground on any level. The End.

Can we do something different now?

ALLLLLLLLL of this. Ugh. If it made me rage, it would mean it had potential, it would at least mean I still cared and was raging at the contrast between what happened and what could have happened. But it was so mean-spirited and off-putting and sucked so much worth out of everything that I can't even rage.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-13 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
I want to start reading Avengers comics (I like comics in general) but reading stuff like this about the newer material is discouraging. Does anyone have any advice about what volume or series to start with? I kinda want to read more about Captain America, Black Widow and Thor specifically.

You can't really go wrong with Kurt Busiek's Avengers run from the late '90s/early 2000s. Very minor flaws, no stupahorrible events, and some truly excellent storylines.

If you don't mind the crack and goofiness of the Silver and Bronze age, I'd also recommend looking up some really old classics that are generally listed and described on various rec lists around the internet, like the Kree/Skrull War, Under Siege, The Korvac Saga, the various Ultron stories, etc.

To everyone who ever asks about Thor, my automatic rec is Walt Simonson's run :)

Cyclops haters should read him as written by Joss Whedon because he is so perfect there.

I'm surprised there are still people who care.

Phoenix has been back and then left again a million times now.
And Prof X. was thought dead at least twice that I can remember. Jean Grey uses the "revolving doors to Death", Xavier has been in an out of his wheelchair about as many times, but that doesn't exclude a couple of supposed deaths.
That's not counting all the stuff since I more or less stopped reading Marvel except for occasional storylines.

This one, though? Promised to suck from the premise.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-13 10:34 am (UTC)(link)
This. I don't even know why people still take anyone dying in a Marvel comic seriously. Sooner or later, everyone except Uncle Ben will be back anyway. Which is sad, because this just about destroys all the drama-factor a good death scene might have. Every time someone dies now, I only go "Meh." and move on.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-15 09:51 am (UTC)(link)
I'm genuinely surprised there are Cyclops defenders. Wow.
