Did people really ship Ryan/Seth so much? (I assume this is The OC?) I really liked their friendship dynamic and didn't think that so many people wanted to relation-ship them. But, to each their own.

I'd hate for a show to make two male characters into a gay couple because the fans have been so "gypped" by OTPs in the past. Especially, as you think, it would be out of their character. It would ruin a show imo. (I don't necessarily think that it would be OOC, but I'm not writing petitions to Jeff Davis to make it happen, either.)

I really don't understand why a pairing has to be canon or be the undisputed endgame of a series in order for a lot of people to like it. Isn't that what fanworks are for?

So, it might be an honest mistake (I'm not going to assume you intentionally used a slur) but you should know that the verb "to gyp" and all it's conjugations comes from the idea that all gypsies are sqindlers/thieves. It's rather offensive, but most people are unaware of its connotations.

It carries the same sort of connotation as saying somebody "jewed you out" of something.

It's best to try and say "cheated" or "swindled" or "deprived," instead of "gypped" because those aren't ethnic slurs.

During early season 1 (especially the first 7 or so episodes that aired in the summer), there were definitely some heavy Ryan/Seth out there. They took over fanfiction.net and pretty much introduced me to kink. I remember this one cute little story where Ryan didn't know how two guys were able to have sex and Seth was pretty shocked considering Ryan has been to juvie. Not to mention the handful of fanfiction where Ryan would let Seth give him a blowjob. I jerked many-a-time to Ryan/Seth kink. Trust me, it was there once.
