I'm crossing my fingers hard that Sterek becomes canon, personally. Not just because I can see it being done in a way that's really IC and works (and frankly I think people who think it's automatically OOC lack imagination), but also because it would be pretty awesome representation and I'm tired - really, incredibly tired - of fans being jerked around by creators only for it to come to naught.

With the TW creator and team taunting and teasing the fans about Sterek for ages now - telling fans to "convince them" and otherwise egging fans on, trying to make them "work for it" - for them to turn around and not make it canon would be incredibly disgusting. I would honestly stop watching the show, because seriously, that's a disgusting level of queer-baiting even infamous shows like BBC's Sherlock haven't touched yet. It would be a nasty, disgusting stunt and I would be unable to support the show in any way if they did that.

So yeah. Sterek becomes canon or they lose a lot of viewers.. and all my respect because it would make them queer-baiting assholes.

Except most of the queerbaiting going on hasn't been by Jeff Davis? He's said that he could maybe possibly consider Sterek, and then fans blew it out of proportion as him CONFIRMING that it was happening. The really queerbait-y (is that even a word?) stuff, like the "We're on a ship!" video with Dylan and Hoechlin and the AfterElton poll, were not at all Jeff's doing. Honestly, I think half the stuff that people are taking as queerbaiting from Jeff is basically fans blowing things out of proportion - like when everyone freaked out because he mentioned the upcoming Sterek pool scene before it aired and then they found out that no romance was going to be happening on screen. Jeff was operating under the assumption that if he said Sterek people would assume he meant interaction, not full on making out or groping, which some people seemed to think was what he intended. There has been a lot of hype around Sterek as a pairing and a lot of people trying to cash in on the success, but Jeff Davis has never made any promises about it, he just hasn't ruled it out entirely as a possibility. Just because Jeff and the cast members acknowledge that Sterek existdoesn't constitute queerbaiting. If they were to actually start actively queerbaiting, either on-screen or off? Yeah, that would be annoying as hell.

Also, honestly, just because Stiles and Derek would be a same-sex couple, their becoming a part of canon does not automatically constitute better queer representation. Shoehorning a couple into canon that wasn't otherwise intended to be there because of fan reaction often doesn't work, and there are a whole mess of issues with Sterek were they get get time on screen (such as consent, given the age difference). There are a hell of a lot of queer characters on TV that are there to be token magical queers or gay best friends or raging, evil bisexuals. There are queer couples on TV that exist to be little more than stereotypes. While it's nice to know that have more queer characters now that in the past, not all of those characters are good representations, which isn't entirely helpful in combating social stigma and harmful stereotypes. I'd love for the show to have more queer characters, and I think it would be awesome if Stiles was canonically bisexual (and also I would like some queer girls and trans* characters), but having Stiles essentially come out just so he can hook up with Derek, even if it doesn't fit the current storyline? Not really sold on the idea.

cry a little more. and look up queer presentations while you're at it.

The ayrt isn't the person who comes across as "crying."

I'm a queer person myself, but thank you for dismissing my entire argument with a pithy little quip and telling me to look up something that you're obviously not informed about yourself.

What if Danny gets a boyfriend but Sterek never happens? Or what if Stiles acknowledges his bisexuality and gets together with a guy other than Derek?

C'mon, man, let's be honest: this is entitled "you'd better have my ship get together OR ELSE" crap, and that's what's actually driven the response from the show's creators. You want to make it seem like it's the "correct" pairing by pretending it's about "issues," but it's not. It's just a ship.
