People who would complain about that line have no idea about the characters or the context. First of all the guy is completely socially inept. He's never had any real friends and just learns social interaction from books. Most of the time he has no idea about what he says means or if it's wrong. He even thinks people who use him only for his money are his friends.

Second of all the girl is far from this submissive shoujo stereotype that would blush and treat what he said as some twisted fanservice.

I know somebody did make a fuss about it but a lot of people said they were overreacting, which they were.

To be honest I was a little surprised at that line, but all things considered it didn't pack the punch because the guy is completely clueless and has no tact in any social situation.

You know, I thought that was the case after reading the wiki page on this show...but thank God for the complaint because I haven't seen any interesting romante/comedy anime in years and now I want to watch this.
