I don't know. I think they gave Pierce plenty of chances but he just persisted in being awful, even when he *knew* that he was being awful and pissing everyone off. I have a hard time feeling sorry for him.

I have to say that it really pissed me off, at the beginning of Season 3, when everyone was like "Oh! We have to give Pierce so many fucking chances to get back in the good graces of the group! Oh, shit, Jeff did something that was arguably not even as bad as shit that Pierce was doing? OUT OF THE GROUP IMMEDIATELY, no forgiveness."

If anything, yeah, they almost gave Pierce too many chances, because he was an unrepentant dick who they kept forgiving and trying to include. And he just kept doing it even if he knew what he was doing. So, basically, Pierce is Chevy Chase.
