Besides, just imagine the faces everyone who dismissed you as a joker would make after they found out that you're able to deliver brutal vocals. That would be priceless.

(With some exception. I think Within Temptation, Sharon is actually the frontrunner, but other bands -- *cough* Nightwish -- have made it very clear with their actions that the women don't have a lot of power.)

-- *cough* Nightwish --
*groans* Oh God, Nightwish. I've never been a fan of them, but every once in a while I stumble across one of their songs or news about the band. And especially now that Anette has left, the whole band just seems more and more like a glorified boys club. Though I do admit that some of the fanwank (not to mention the conspiracy theories) caused by Anette's departure has been pretty lulzy in places.
(Also, meet Stonefield. They're an Aussie band made of four sisters, and while their music isn't exactly what trve Norwegian black metal, they're still pretty awesome if you ask me.)

I love Nightwish's music but between Tarja and Anette, ugh. Tarja has a bad rap for being a prima donna but it is also pretty obvious that the band members have a grudge (and, I'm not sure if it is still online, but her husband/band manager addressed a lot of the rumors that were flying around about her; I do not personally know what is "true" but the various things said were such to make me raise an eyebrow and think there was more going on than just "prima donna").
Anette had just posted about getting sick to the point of ER visit the night of one of the concerts and was upset the band immediately found a replacement and continued on with the show that night, and her being fired from the band came pretty immediately thereafter, which just seems fucked up to me. I honestly have not been following it super closely so I don't know much more detail there but that just seemed like a shitty thing to do.
Oooo! I like the song you linked, I'll have to check out their other stuff! (And nice, they're on Spotify.)

Didn't Anette and the boys part ways on friendly terms? Well, according to the press statement, anyway. But I agree, searching for a replacement seemed kind of a fucked up thing to do when one of your band members is spending the night at the ER. And from what I recall from reading Anette's blog, she wasn't too happy with the decision, either. And as far as I'm concerned, no one can really fault her for that. It's not like Anette had it easy when she was easing her way into the band - partly because NW is a pretty big band, and partly because of the rabid fans who were hell bent on hating her - so parting ways in that manner seemed kind of unfair towards her.
I admit that I'm kind of curious to know how the whole thing really went down, but on the other hand I think it'd be best for everyone involved if there are no open letters this time around. I only read the one from Tuomas & the gang and the one from Tarja when she was kicked out, and that particular train wreck was just painful to watch. The boys obviously held a grudge, but I'm not sure they did the right thing when they chose to air their dirty laundry in public.
