You seem to really think that it's YOUR fandom and it's not. Sorry to say. Let the new kids play, you crotchety old fart.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-14 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Really? But… new writers improve and become better as long as they keep going. A fandom that dies just remains dead.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-14 08:58 pm (UTC)(link)
This. I would love my non-existent fandom to resurrect, even if all the works would not be that good. It'd ive me at least some hope that it would evolve and become better with time. Now I just feel that it's being gradually forgotten (though it wasn't that famous in the first place), swallowed by the artistic eternity and hopelesness. It's sad.

Wow you sound kinda entitled and douchey. I wish my tiny, in threat of dying fandom would explode into a massive fandom, even with all the crazy, and wank that comes with massive fandoms.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-14 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree. Same thing happened to one of the fandoms I was in. I was excited to see new blood and new works but omg they are just not good. Maybe if the original surge in the fandom hadn't been so spectacular I'd have lower standards, but no. I feel you OP.

Well, you can just move on and pretend it died? I mean, if it's no longer fun for you, why stick around?

(Anonymous) 2012-10-14 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Except if they're new writers, they'll probably improve over time.
Your fandom isn't dead, OP, no need to be so melodramatic.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-14 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Off topic, but that is a pretty photo. I'd like to go there.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-14 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
This happened in my fandom and I feel the same way as you, OP. It's been two years now and the new writers haven't improved at all. They've turned the fandom into a joke and these days all the original fans are ashamed to have ever been a part of it. The canon just ended and I keep hoping that the fandom will finally die now.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-14 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I've watched a fandom implode and the writing turn to shit. It's really awful.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-14 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
My fandom is going through this difficult stage at the moment. I don't wish it was dead, but I am hoping that the new writers start to improve, and soon. I also wish a lot of the current fanbase would grow the hell up. A lot of what's currently going on in the fandom genuinely is inexcusable.

As it is, I'm afraid that when the immature fanbrats get done with it, it's going to be a smoking, radioactive wasteland that no decent human being is going to want to go near.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-15 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
This is kind of weird, but what is that picture/photo of? I feel like I've seen it somewhere before.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-15 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
I kind of feel like this is my fandom right now. But I also wonder if I'm just not giving the new writers a chance because I'm kinda attached to the old ones. There's still some good fic though.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-15 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
Is this by any chance Doctor Who? Because this is kind of how I feel. There's a lot of good fics still, and I don't wish the fandom had died, but all the really good writers have moved on.
:(

(Anonymous) 2012-10-15 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
I'm part of an old fandom that I wasn't able to join until just last year because I hadn't matured enough to really be able to grasp the source material to play with it.

Sure, most of the really popular ficcers in the old fandom have moved on by now, but there's room for new people still. It's not like there's a limited amount of room for new players.

Maybe your canon ended, but why should your wish that it had died entirely with the popular writer's interests be important? Because it comes off not as you feeling like the newer writers aren't any good, but that you want to take something that they love and enjoy and want to try and play with too and take it away from them because you don't want it to be different than when you were there.

People move on, people find new fandoms. That's what your writers did. I don't see how you keeping a fandom with new writers who do love the material, even if their fic aren't as good as the old ones, out.

If every canon did this, I wouldn't have found the first place in fandom where I felt comfortable and happy.

Sometimes considering things from a different point of view isn't necessary. This time is.

They're not good enough for my fandom

I'd be inclined to feel sympathy for you...until I read that. It's not your fandom, as other's have pointed out, and I have a *lot* of trouble with the 'You're not good enough!' attitude you're showing here.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-15 09:49 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I can sort of see it. I started reading a fandom after canon ended, and I still feel as if I missed a golden age of really amazing stories and creativity and community.

Thing is, I've read a lot in that fandom now. Not just the legendary amazing stories, but all the stuff people were writing, and you know what? Back in the day, there were already a lot of fanworks made with more enthusiasm than skill, some of them by the same people who made the really good stuff.

On the bright side, less attention also seems to mean that exclusivity, jockeying for status, posturing, and mean-spiritedness have dropped off a lot. Or, judging from this secret, maybe they're just quieter now.

Which I'm actually OK with.
