Sheesh, because it's so fucking baffling that some people actually enjoy watching things for the story . Clearly, if you don't like rehashed stories, you're an inferior fan! *rolls eyes*

You can't enjoy a story more than once? Every story is a rehashed story if you take a good, hard look at it.

Not in the same way, no.

Some particularly good stories I might consider for a second viewing/reading - but it's still nothing like experiencing it the first time.

And sure, all stories are based on other things. But it's not like Greek myth will actively spoil Star Wars for you.

I completely agree. I've had this conversation for literally decades, because my mum was a great one for reading the ending of a book first, just so she could keep track of where the story was headed. I think she had a hard time following it otherwise, but it used to tick me off no end when I'd say, "Here, read this, I think you'd really enjoy it," and first ting, she'd flip to the end. Doubly so if it was a mystery. Well, fantastic. You now know Who Dunnit. Not much point to reading the rest now, is there?

Hah, but the last time I saw her do it was with one of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy books (which one escapes me now), where, spoilers, the final scene is the same as the first, essentially. That gave me no end of satisfaction, lol.
