saw the other thread, and it got me thinking: are there any other Hourglass girls out there? I'm the only girl I know with an hour-glass figure, all my friends are sleek and banana-shaped.

I tend to make my own clothing, because I find modern clothing just doesn't work for me. It's mostly built for bananas, which is fine, because the are the majority, it makes sense they should cater to them.
Whenever I do buy clothing at the store I have to buy a little bigger than I should because the item will be a perfect fit and then it gets to my butt or boobs and it's tight as hell. Then when I get something that's a comfortable fit around my boob or butt area it'll be a total, baggy sack around the rest of me.
I love using vintage styles to inspire the clothes I make. I find for example, that classic 50s bathing suit works perfect on hour-glass shape.

Any other fashion tip/woes from other hourglass ladies?

I'm an hourglass! I'm a perfectly balanced 36-28-38 and I CANNOT FOR THE LIFE OF ME find pants that are neither woefully tight in the butt/thighs or massively gaping in the waistband. I also have a long torso for my height (5'4") so finding shirts that are long enough to cover my belly can be tough to find...not to mention that stupid trend for great big baggy shirts lately that I can't wear because I literally look pregnant in them even though my belly is not that big. I do love the vintage styles :3

Can't help with the shirts (they make everyone look ugly this year tbh) but if you're looking for pants, try here:

http://www.reitmans.com/Pants/Pants,default,sc.html?prefn1=silouhette&prefv1=Petites

Anything with "Comfort" in the name should do the trick. They do for me!

Sadly, I'm pretty ungifted in the boobs department, while I feel like my ass took all of that and compensated. I'm definately a pear. I hate it.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-14 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Pears are just as beautiful as any other shape anon. <3
I know tons of people who would kill for some gorgeous hips and butt.

I have average/large-ish boobs, a tiny waist (comparatively), and a FUCKING HUGE AS A SEMI TRUCK ass. If my butt were proportional to the rest of me, I would be able to cut my pants size in half. They just do not make clothes that fit me. And it sucks, because when I do find something I like the look of, all I have to do is turn around and all I see is ass! It's really discouraging, and even though I'm losing weight, it's all coming from my upper body, making me even more disproportional looking.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-15 06:35 am (UTC)(link)
Listen.

I am going to break my normal policy of not commenting on shit like this on F!S.

there is nothing wrong with having a big ass it is not a thing to hate it is a good thing you should not be ashamed of Jesus God why would that be a thing you regret

Okay, turning that mode off again.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-14 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Not an hourglass, but I'm a Pear shape with broad shoulders, and I'm also really short.
It makes for a LOT of fun trying to find anything that looks good on me.

(Not to mention with the shapeless, godawful clothes that are in this season... it looks like someone ate all the neon signs in Las Vegas and then threw up.)

(Anonymous) 2012-10-14 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Hourglass here with 39-24-40 measurements. Although sometimes I wish I was another shape because it's a real pain finding the right clothes. You put on a baggy shirt and it makes you look like you're pregnant.

I'd suggest pencil skirts. If they're still too loose then pins always help to get the extra fabric.

Holy crap, I thought I was extreme with 36-24-38.

I bought a sewing machine and now tailor everything I buy, including bras.

Hourglass is probably the best description of me.

Screw pants. Shirts are usually easier, but a fitted dress made out of non-stretchy fabric? It will be a cold day in hell before I find one that will fit me. Which sucks because I adore the style.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-15 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
I've had some success with one of these:

http://www.suzyshier.com/eng/categories/styles/dresses

I did get one in a "busy" pattern, lost the belt, and balanced it with a blazer, however.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-14 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm an obese hourglass and it's hellish trying to find clothes that fit. 50-25-40. For one thing, my band size is so small that I have to order bras online, because none of the stores around here sell smaller than a 30" band. And I pretty much have to wear baggy shirts because the size difference between my waist, chest, and hips is so extreme that it looks bizarre in clingy shirts. And I get the waist-band problem with pants being tight around my hips but gaping up top.

I'm actually trying to lose about 80 pounds, not because I care about how I look, but because I'm sick of being unable to find clothing that fits me.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-15 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
From the sound of it, since the bust and hips aren't equally proportional or close to equal, it seems more like your a vase shape instead of an hourglass. There's some clothes in the information on how to dress for a vase shape here:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-488236/Trinny-Susannah-reveal-12-womens-body-types--you.html

and here: http://www.wikihow.com/Dress-if-You've-Got-a-Vase-Shaped-Body

Best of luck to losing the weight. But there are ways to dress for your body type.

I always like reading about people discussing their bodies, because it lets me see what an incredible variety exists out there.

It's interesting to hear you call yourself an "obese hourglass", because your waist measurement is less than mine, but I'm an absolutely tiny person, barely more than 100 lbs.

I guess it helps me feel really good about all kinds of different body types being out there. I feel you with your struggles to find something that fits and is to your taste, and I definitely hope you can find clothes you like and feel comfortable in.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-15 03:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Holy crap I wish I could see you you sound AMAZING.

I'm an hourglass.

I would recommend bras by Wacoal; they make really pretty ones even for large busts. I am rocking the H. LOL

And I would advise not even trying on anything with an empire waist because if you are curvy, the empire line is probably going to hit right across your nipples instead of nestling underneath your bosom like it's supposed to.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-15 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
Another Hourglass here! I used to wear empire cuts all the time when I was in high school (I loved the style :p). I found I could fit into them pretty well as long as I got a few sizes bigger than I was, or of course, custom make my own.

I'm a 5'4, 34-24-34, btw.

Wacoal is fucking brilliant. Only bras that looked good and felt good on me after endless searching and bad choices when I suddenly shot up a few sizes. God bless 'em.

I have a life for one day and I miss the hourglass figure thread! I share your shopping woes. I wish more stores carried curvy fit pants because they are great. Regular pants never fit in the waist because I have to buy them big, and so my pants are always falling to my hips (even with a belt). Erg. And shirts. Always too tight in the shoulders, arms and bust.

Making clothes sounds really cool. I wish I could do that.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-15 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
I'm an hourglass. I generally do feel rather frustrated by the clothing options because they're either really uncomfortable and revealing or kind of comfortable and revealing.

I've actually resorted to buying mens clothes for most things (barring trousers and urgh I hate trouser shopping, I can go 8 hours and find nothing that fits). I just don't care anymore if I look nice or not, I just want to be comfortable

If I had a smaller bust, I'd wear nothing but men's shirts. They're still made with that good, thick, often 100% cotton and no embarrassing necklines.

[personal profile] darkmanifest 2012-10-15 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
Hourglass here. You ain't lying about clothes that fit right in one place and awful in another, especially now that boot-cut jeans are harder to find in favor of skinny jeans. I couldn't get my ass into skinny jeans with a crowbar. And all those itty-bitty, super thin shirts everywhere right now are unfeasible with my boobs but fit my waist, too. If I was more feminine, I'd wear more dresses. My mom, who has a similar shape, wore lovely dresses all summer. I hated her comfort, haha.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-15 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
Fucking skinny jeans. >:C And around here the bootcut jeans are just gone, so even if I do manage to find something that fits my hips and butt it gets hung up on my calves.

Is this really true? Because I'm pretty much straight up and down (34-28-34), and nothing ever fits right. If the hips fit, the waist is too small. If the waist fits, the hips are huge. I have to either wear men's pants, or pants so low-rise that only the hip measurement matters. I assumed hourglass shapes would have an easier time.
