I find modern clothing just doesn't work for me. It's mostly built for bananas, which is fine, because the are the majority, it makes sense they should cater to them

Is this really true? Because I'm pretty much straight up and down (34-28-34), and nothing ever fits right. If the hips fit, the waist is too small. If the waist fits, the hips are huge. I have to either wear men's pants, or pants so low-rise that only the hip measurement matters. I assumed hourglass shapes would have an easier time.

well, i would consider you an hourglass (even if you don't have that 9 inches between your measurements), so perhaps that would explain it.

But if that's the case, and most women are "straighter" than me (casual observation would reveal this to most definitely not be the case) shouldn't clothing be ill-fitting for the opposite reasons - i.e. waist is too big if the hips fit, hips too small if the waist fits? My fit problem is the opposite - clothing's cut for a far curvier figure than I possess. Men's clothing fits much better.

According to wiki a 28" waist would put one at a size 10, the hip measurement for that size being 39". Which is way, way too big for me. Conversely, 34" hips would put one at a size 4, the waist size for that measurement being 23" - which is way, way too small.

So I'm not sure where you're getting the "hourglass" thing; it's painfully apparent both from when I try on clothing and from the listed measurements themselves that having too much curve isn't the problem - it's having to little.

Maybe modern fashion just hates everyone.

As a casual observation, holy damn you are petite for your height. We've nearly the same measurements, and I'm about a foot shorter than you. Or maybe I'm just squat lol, idk.

Anyway, I feel you. Basically all I wear are Old Navy short jeans, and while the waist is generally good, the hips balloon out ridiculously. This leads me to wear mostly boy jeans, because they actually fit. And are comfortable.

Hahah if by "petite" you mean scrawny as hell right now, yeah. I've been trying to put some muscle back on but the last couple of years in academia have not been conducive to working out. I think I couldn't even do your job from the get-go - I don't meet the minimum weight requirements for my height to get into the military.

But yeah, I'm in the same boat, men's 28" pants with a 34" inseam fits me pretty much perfectly.

Oh well, time for more oats and squats.
