So, so your high school wrote and performed its own original songs? Because mine sure as hell didn't.

And the orchestra didn't write its own songs.

And the band didn't write its own songs.

Each musical ensemble *GASP* covered the work of others. How awful!

I sure wish I'd gone to your school, OP. That would've been super exciting.

I read this entire comment with an internal voice that sounded like a 14-year-old Valley-girl. Really suited the contents. Have you just discovered sarcasm?

Anyway, Glee enjoys unwarranted accolades and profits off the back of more talented people, maiming it in the process. That's the point. It's lazy and not impressive.

It's a show about a high school music club. High school music clubs don't write their own music; they perform that of other people. In light of that, why should this show write its own music? The characters and the drama are flat, so wouldn't the writing be lazy overall, anyway?

Technically, they have done their own songs, which were really, really pathetic. And they do mash-ups, which are almost original songs, except no, not like that at all.

But, to the second anon, my high school choir performed songs written by other people and sold CDs of our concerts to pay for things like our performance uniforms and transportation and sheet music. I don't fully understand how that is any different. Honestly, I think some of their songs are better than the original (especially "No Air," since it gives me the chance to listen to a great song without hearing that dick Chris Brown's voice ever again). Yes, I also think some of their covers suck (but not as badly as that dick Chris Brown). It's all a matter of perspective.
