I'm a gigantic Kirk/Spock shipper. OTP forever. To give you some level of perspective, I have a goddamn handmade quilt with K/S fanart on it.

But..... I am so very, very done being emotionally invested in the Reboot verse. I'll see the next movie (and any subsequent ones) in theatres a few times and buy the DVD(s), but only because I'm playing the game of "do what you can to signal to Paramount that there is still a market for another Trek TV series".

The saddest part about it all is that the Spock/Uhura ship, as horribly OOC and anti-feminist as it is, isn't even in the top five reasons I dislike the Reboot verse.

GIVE ME YOUR REASONS!

I'm always interested in knowing why people don't like things that I do. I think it's because I'm chronically in love with horrible movies and tv shows. I know the Reboot verse has problems, but I was wondering if you would be willing to talk about what it is in particular that makes you dislike it?

Hey tyger66- I don't know if you're still here, but this is the anon you responded to who dislikes the Reboot verse. Just for clarity, I am a huge Original Series fangirl who simultaneously believes that Deep Space Nine (*not* Next Generation) is the true spiritual successor to TOS. Yeah, I have weird tastes.

I am so sorry I didn't respond earlier. My aunt, who lives nine hours away, showed up completely unannounced and so my plans to spend the evening on F!S kinda got thrown out the window, sorry again.

Anyways, I am really flattered that you wanted to know my reasons. *blush*

Normally I would give you long detailed list starting with Reason Five, but in the interest of getting this posted so you might actually see it, my number one reason I have PROBLEMS with the Reboot verse is the bizarre depiction of Romulans.

Romulans fascinate me, and I bitterly resent how much more attention Klingons get in comparison to them.

So it was a huge letdown when the Reboot verse Romulans turned out to be a bunch of insane, muscular tattooed guys out for vengeance. I mean, here you have this big, big chance to finally flesh out Romulan culture (with a HUGE budget)... and you basically have Klingons by a different name as the villains?

WHY.

Yay! I got a response!

First: TOS is the best. Period. My dad much prefers Next Generation, because there was less cheesy-ness, but oh my god the cheese was the best part!

I also love the Romulans, and it kind of makes me mad that they were all exactly the same in the movie; only like 2 of them even had spoken lines!

Also, I get emails when people reply to me, so feel free to give me the long detailed list. I will see it and respond as long as I'm not asleep, and if I do go to sleep then I will happily read it in the morning! Like I said, not much fascinates me more than hearing long detailed opinions of things I like, especially when they are different than mine! It encourages me to look at things differently, and I almost always walk away having noticed something I had previously overlooked. It's a learning experience!

*scratches head* I always thought TNG was just as cheesy in its own way as TOS. I mean, differently so, since one was made in the 60s and the other in mostly the 80s but. Actually, all the series have some amount, even DS9 in places. It's part of the fun!

My mom is an original Trekkie who grew up watching TOS as a kid. I remember her painstakingly buying the entire series in VHS even though they were released one episode per VHS and it took her years to be able to afford to complete the collection. (Well, mostly. I think she skipped "Spock's Brain" as it was a travesty and in her opinion should be forgotten forever. Which is I think most people's opinion of that episode, LOL.) So, while I was born in the 80s, my first introduction to the series was actually TOS.

(And I had the biggest crush on Uhura, omg. I got the chance to meet Nichelle at cons and she is FIERCE.)

...... I also apparently actually need to acquire some Trek icons because I has one. o.o

I agree about the 60s cheese vs. 80s cheese, when you put it like that. But TNG lost a lot of the cheesy Star Trek charm when Roddenberry died and the stories became darker and more personal. It was still good (arguably better from a critic's point of view), but it just didn't feel like the same Star Trek.

Also that is amazing about your mom buying the whole series. I never got ANY Trek growing up, so I'm a little jealous.

as horribly OOC

on the other hand, Spock fucking his superior officer would be oh so in character and not against any regulation or vulcan stoicism, at all (not ever mind that he is a straight character)

and anti-feminist as it is

IDK how anyone can watch a scene like the one where Uhura pwned a vulcan commander (one that intimidated the hell out of everyone on that ship) using his logic and got her well-earned place aboard the Enterprise,
and find her to be diminished as a woman. Did I mention her boyfriend is the male vulcan character that respects her and possibly fell for her because she's a hell of a woman with amazing skills and not just a pretty face? A vulcan that complimented her. And she, hotness on legs, and with all the guys she could have dated (including Kirk), chose the nerd guy who also happen to be a freaking vulcan.
