People have the right to point out whitewashing regardless of how small the fandom is. The anti-whitewashing places I see only point it out so it can be fixed or avoided in future works.

Fun fact: I did see one "white-washed" fanart in an anti-whitewashing Motorcity blog that was just lineart. Not gray-scale or even filled-in black, just lines. That was really dumb of them.

I don't like POC either, but it is a bit more tasteful that saying "non-white people" or something when that's what you're talking about. Besides, you end up grouping people at some point. Even if you don't say POC, you may just refer to Asians or Middle-Easterners or w/e, which I've seen offend people because it lumps their cultures with all the other cultures of that area. And when you're not referring to a specific person and their ethnicity, you're gonna piss someone off.

If you hate POC, what's your idea for what people should say if they're referring to, say, all people who aren't white in America?

racial minority in X. X being whatever country you are referring to. but, if you're talking about America in context and everyone understands that, just say racial minority. it's simple and the truth

/racial minority of Canada

Hm, that sounds good. Thanks.

Frankly? If you are specifically talking about everyone who isn't white, rather than a specific group, then... why not just use non-white people? I mean, if you're talking about a specific group then use the name of that particular group but POC is just as much drawing a line between 'people of colour' and, uh... 'people of... non-colour'? (ie. white) as 'white' and 'non-white' do.

Same as if you want to separate out talking about, say, black people from everyone else you would use 'black' and 'non-black'. Asians and non-Asians. Chinese and non-Chinese. Christians and non-Christians. Humans and non-humans. Mammals and non-mammals. Whatever.

I wonder if people use "POC" out of a desire to use "person first" language. Of course, if that's the case, using an abbreviation kind of defeats the purpose.
