(Anonymous) 2012-10-15 02:18 pm (UTC)(link)I don't think that Scotty/Uhura can be considered more TOS canon than Spock/Uhura, though, to be fair, Uhura did flirt with Spock in the original series and Nichelle Nichols herself supports the ship and said Roddenberry had wanted to explore it. And yet even that pair isn't canon because it never happened in TOS. Ironically, I've read fans dismissing the Spock/Uhura scenes from TOS calling the writers and the fans crazy for mentioning them in "Spock/Uhura isn't completely baseless" articles all the while they themselves see imaginary romantic vibes between TOS Scotty and Uhura non romantic non flirting interactions in all the scenes where they just happened to be in the same room doing their job.
Point is, after a movie made one of those pairs canon people started looking for hints of it back in TOS to justify it. Though, to be honest, I see more Scotty/Uhura supporters NOW that Spock/Uhura is canon than I did before 2009 and they casually happen to be K/S fans too for the most part.
