This very much.

I am always disappointed about the fact that I never got to read Prisoner of Azkaban without knowing that Sirius was actually a good guy. But for some reason the fact that Sirius was Harry's godfather and helping him in Goblet of Fire stuck in my head, even though I was told this in a casual conversation a year or so before I read the book. Given that PoA is my favourite of the series, I really do wish I had been able to experience the twist during my initial read. I still love it but I do feel like I missed out.

I do agree though that if you really don't want to be spoiled then you should know where to avoid. I also spoiled myself about the ending of Dragon Age 2 but that's because I was reading the kinkmeme and so I definitely brought that one on myself.

I would have legit cried if I had been spoiled on any of the Harry Potter books :( The fact that I had absolutely no frickin' idea whatsoever about anything that was going to happen was a HUGE part of the experience of the experience for me. Heck, I don't even look at shit for upcoming movies apart from theatrical trailers and promos I see on TV, I like surprises so much.

Spoilers can sometimes be good though. The fact that I was heavily spoiled on Buffy and Angel before I even thought about watching either show made the wallbangers way, way easier to brush off, because that way I didn't go in having different expectations that could get horribly dashed.

Ouch, that must *suck*. PoA is my favorite too, and though I can appreciate the wonderful job she did setting up the reveal in retrospect, not being able to appreciate the mindfuck in its full glory the first time around? You have all my sympathies.

And you just know that, if the fandom had been big enough for people to hang bedsheets off of overpasses at that point, it would have happened.
