Actually, I have a tangentially related question. How long should a spoiler be a spoiler?

For example, I'm watching Red vs Blue right now. Season 10 is coming out. I know I should put spoiler tags for what happened in the latest episode. In the last few episodes, even. What about the beginning of Season 10? Can I talk about that? Or character deaths that may or may not happen in the midst of Season 10? Can I just assume everyone's watched the Season 9 finale and can talk about that?

What about the huge, story-changing spoiler in Season 6? The fandom is long aware of it, but people who've never seen Red vs Blue would be hell spoiled for it. When I was first watching, my friend had the courtesy to not spoil it for me. And I'm not spoiling it for a friend who is going to watch. What about online? Can I just talk about how (spoiler removed) is a (spoiler removed) without worrying? It was definitely a huge shock when I first watched it, and I'm definitely glad I wasn't spoiled for that. But it might be annoying to put up spoiler tags if you're talking about it...

Hell, what about Season 1? I was surprised when I learned Tex was a girl, and that's revealed in the first few episodes. Should I spoiler tag it? (Well, I just now decided to not spoiler tag it, so, er, sorry for anyone spoiled?)

These may seem like rhetorical questions, but they're not. I'm actually curious what constitutes spoilers nowadays.

(Most of these apply to general online spaces like FandomSecrets, not the actual Red vs Blue fandom, who I expect to be more or less caught up. Except for Season 10. When's a good time to stop spoiler-tagging the actual fandom in regards to Season 10?)
