(Anonymous) 2012-10-15 07:10 am (UTC)(link)It can be like that, particularly if you run into certain rps like The Love Hotel, or some of the rp circles on tumblr*, but there are a lot where smut isn't the only thing that happens. There are a lot of rpers who go into the character interactions [not just the romantic ones], and they're fun to play with and read the rps of. It's just a matter of finding them sometimes.
Admittedly, I'm falling out of fandom rp and back into the original rps so I don't know anywhere to really direct you for examples [and I'm hesitant to point you over to asking some of the comms I do know of because the people there aren't...exactly the nicest folks around], but they do exist.
* Those aren't the only places, of course, just the first that spring to mind
