When I hear secrets like this, I always wonder the fandom. I mean, if someone came into the Stargate fandom and suddenly they said X, I think maybe like three people would care because there are *so* many facets, so many places that this fandom resides, some don't even overlap entirely. There are BNFs within my ship fandom, but I couldn't name a BNF for the WHOLE fandom. Not a one.

This has been my experience with the one or two other fandoms I've dabbled in. What fandom is *so* cohesive that there would be enough people who would get outraged?

I also think this.

I also think that the person is lying or horrendously exaggerating. Partly because I generally tend to suspect people of doing so, especially on the Internet; partly because I just doubt that there's any fandom where such concentrated power plays and such universal effect on the fandom and such a cohesive fanbase are possible. I just really, really don't believe OP. I think they're, at best, massively exaggerating the importance and the effect of what they did.

Probably. It's possible they were younger and so self-absorbed too that they have no idea that not that many people probably even cared. And they sort of never realized that not that many people cared LOL.

Yeah... I mean, I participated in two "secret communities to gripe about/make fun of the fandom" comms back in the day in two different fandoms, and trolled one of them with purposely bad fanfic. It's not exactly rare or groundbreaking stuff to be snarky and do some casual trolling, and at least I was aware enough to know that it didn't really have any impact on the fandom except amusing myself and my friends.
