There is a song that is about a (romani, poor, female) prostitute who falls for her client. Male singers usually alter the song so that it's sung from the perspective of the (white, rich, male) client. It makes me irrationally angry. It changes the tone and the meaning of the song.

This is completely a different sort of thing than most of the people posting her are thinking of...which, by the way, I think in this case the anger is completely rational and appropriate.

Now I want to a) know which song it is and b) a version that's sung by a male singer from the perspective of the prostitute.

Actually, since I posted that comment I've discovered that some think that the song was originally supposed to be about a gay, romani, poor, male prostitute falling for his client, but the gay part got censured.

The layers of fail. They keep piling up.
