Did you try nominating the fandom/character for Yuletide this year?

I've tried things like that, if OP's ship is anything like mine no matter what I tried over the years I only ever got a promt filled once.

Sorry to hear that. At least with Yuletide, it could simply be bad luck -- perhaps there was someone out there, offering to write your fandom, but said person just wasn't matched to you.

Is there any specific series/pairing that you want fic for...? I'm into a lot of obscure stuff myself, so you never know... Perhaps I could point you in the right direction!

The ship is Alex Row/Sophia Forrester from Last Exile. I'm pretty sure I've found everything there is, and have started writing for it just to have something out there.

This is an excellent ship from an excellent series, I'm sorry to hear that its not getting enough recognition but I guess I shouldn't be surpised given that I found the fandom to be practically nonexistent... or I just didn't lurk hard enough.

I feel your pain, OP. My newest favorite pair from a past show was/is FAR more popular with French-speaking fans than English-speaking ones.

Google translated porn is the best porn.

Ah Google translate...every time a character's name can be translated into something sweet/a flower/the sun/etc the translation becomes ten time more interesting.

I feel your pain. I've tried the same thing for my OTP fix, but I never understand enough of the translation.

I would suggest you just learn the language, but I have a strong suspicion at least two of my readers use some sort of translation service to read my fic.

I would love to learn other languages I've tried, but I just don't have the brain for it, not to mention time, or money.

It's generally accepted among linguists and language acquisition folks that it takes 7 years to learn a language once you're past 10 years of age.

That's a lot of time just to be able to read fic.

Maybe to be able to speak and write in it, but I learned to read French through fanfic in about two years.

I'm curious: is it a decent translator? Babel leaves something to be desired.

Google translate works by searching a huge database of documents that are bilingual in the source and target languages, and comparing them to individual words as a crosscheck. Unlike what Babelfish used to be, which was just a single-word translator.

So while it is by no means perfect, yes, g!translate is far better than Babelfish.

I find it curious that people from different countries tend to ship different pairings. Funnily anough, I read fics in English for most of my pairings, as people in my mothertongue tend to focus more on others, I wouldn't be able to get my fix, as you said, otherwise!

I did that once for an absolutely amazing German story. I got about eleven chapters in before getting sick of having to mentally correct translations like "ear holes" to "pierced ears" and figure out what pronoun referred to who and ragequitting. I think it would've been easier to just learn German.

Ever tried to ask to someone to translate that fic? You never know.
