I wonder what Wybie would have looked like in his style

Hopefully he would have looked nonexistent.

That would be an interesting take on it. If they kept the more muted colors with bits and splashes of color he seems to use, that would be great.

(FYE had the super DVD/3D combo with the book and extras for 10$ one day.)

I tried to like the book, I just...couldn't. Though I haven't really been able to like any of Gaiman's books aside from M is for magic and The Graveyard Book (Which is being turned into a movie-Stopmotion I think, unsure!)

I love the movie to bits though.

I too disliked the book. Unlike some book to film projects, this was a big improvement to me, though I admit to not having read the book in about two years.

OP

Yeah, anything like that would be fine! I guess my biggest wish would be to have it done in a paper stop-motion; probably too difficult unless they used CGI to the same effect, but I just imagine the cover being played out with an old parchment-colored Coraline walking around in the dark with light playing off of her. Ha ha, it's not a very good description but it looks beautiful in my head.

(WHAT. Dang, I almost never go to the one here because it's usually so expensive :'( )

Is this screencap from Coraline? Because, wow, I agree so hard. That art SUCKS man.

OP

(Anonymous) 2012-10-20 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
It is. When the trailers first came out, I didn't really like the designs or artwork, but now I appreciate them on their own basis (because they ARE wonderful, in my opinion, but just very dissonant in comparison with the book).

That's stop motion animation you idiot. Not 'art'.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-21 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
You have MirrorMask (2005)

Which, while undeniably beautiful and to my mind unfairly overlooked, didn't do so well commercially. I suspect that helped the makers of Coraline make some of their design decisions :(

I loved the book so much, and am STILL confused as to why they added Wybie. I mean, are they so confused as to why a girl can save herself? Nope, a boy has to do it. And a black boy too. It's like they just needed some diversity.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-22 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Late to the party, but that's not why they added Wybie. He was there so that Coraline had someone to talk to so she didn't spend the whole movie talking to herself. I think the bit at the end was just to give him something to do because Coraline had already more or less ended it.
