All the music students I know (and basically 80% of the people I know are music students) are the least music-hipstery people out there. :S Anyway, there's no shame in liking "bad" music or "whiny teenager" music. Otherwise all music students would only listen to Beethoven symphonies and Wagner operas and NO POP MUSIC EVER DO YOU HEAR ME.

OMG. What is it with the whole "Evanescence are bad music" thing? Seriously? Are you deaf?

(Anonymous) 2012-10-20 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
ayrt

Er, not sure if you're asking me "why do you think Evanescence is bad?" or agreeing with me by saying, "yeah, it's stupid that people keep calling this music 'bad'!"

Because if it's the first one, I'm a bit confused because I didn't actually say or want to imply that I thought Evanescence was shitty music... in fact I don't even know what they sound like, so yeah, can't really have an opinion there. I was just saying a general point, that people shouldn't feel silly for liking a song that most others don't.

Oh, yeah. Beethoven didn't like Evanescence because he was deaf.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-20 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Ohhhhh that's why, I always thought it was because he thought it was whiny teenager music. Man. That really changes things.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-20 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
People have different opinions?
SHOCK THE WORLD.

People don't like things that you like?

HOLY SHIT.

STOP THE PRESSES. THIS IS FUCKING SERIOUS.

Yeah, my immediate reaction to the secret was basically "Music students are hipsters? Bwah?" Learning about music basically teaches you to recognize that almost all "song-format" (not to be confused with song form) music, whether mainstream or from some underground club in Hipster City, is both very simple and very homogenous. If you want to give a music snob an identity crisis, teach them about the circle of fifths. Then get the hell away from them becaue they're about to get a whole lot worse.

Then teach them about mixed meter and watch them try to dance.
