I don't know if it's an AO3 thing... could be. I was just thinking how, to me, there seems to be a correlation between these weird OOC characters and the popularity of a story. Right now I don't know where to look for good team fic. You sure as hell can't go by AO3 hit count.

If you want recs, probably my favorite teamfic author by far is irnan. She's on AO3 but she's one of the sane ones, and her teamfic is sweet and hilarious and dark and serious and actually mature and doesn't make the characters seem like high schoolers in 30-40 year-olds' bodies, all at the same time. icarus_chained is also great, if more experimental and erratic. And amanuensis1 has written some frickin' awesome stuff as well, and has good taste in recs.

And honestly, this is a weird thing to say, but the gen fics on the kinkmeme are quite often really good, if somewhat simplistic and concept-driven, and when they aren't, they're usually blatantly schmoopy and superficial enough to be recognized as crap in the summary or first few paragraphs.

ETA: ok wait wait, I have to also add a rec for margo_kim, also on AO3 and LJ. Her fic is mindblowingly amazing, and she only started write a few weeks ago but seems to be putting out a lot of fics quite frequently.

Oh yeah, I like all these writers. I already have icarus_chaind and margo_kin tracked and I liked everything I read of irnan's stories, so last night I went through her stuff and found a few good new ones. The best strategy is probably to track every writer who writes something you liked, and to hunt through their bookmarks. (I wish AO3 would allow sorting people's personal bookmarks by fandom the way ffn does. Because that is how I navigate ffn.)

I'd like to find the gems on the kinkmeme but while I'm not afraid to dive into the ffn dumpster to fish out the hidden jewels, the kinkmemes just stump me. They feel so disorganized and I never know where to start looking.
