Well, to be fair, Tony in the movie was... pretty damn babble-y.

AYRT

Yes, but he wasn't nearing complete incoherence and craziness, like he tends to in fanfiction. He wasn't a cute, clueless puppy. Come on, he seemed to be the oldest person on the Initiative (um, counting normal, not frozen years and excluding Thor, I guess? I'm not 100% sure of this, but I always thought of him as such), he might have been a prankster and a joker but, to paraphrase IM1, "contrary to popular belief, he knew exactly what he was doing". Fanon!Tony is often shown to behave like a teenager in an old man's body, I think. But that's only my opinion :)

(I thought he was second-oldest, after Bruce, but I'm not 100% sure about that...maybe Bruce is just going grey from prolonged stress)

Yeah, he's immature and jokey enough to make it plausible for him to be characterized as "the goofy one", but he definitely shows his age and worldliness in the movie, so I'm not sure why he's so often characterized as the naive little kid of the team who always gets taken care of. It's...weird.

Like, okay, fine, I admit I'm influenced by how it works the comics here, but if you're writing everyone-lives-in-his-tower fics, I'd assume he'd be sort of their landlord/manager/guy-who-takes-care-of-all-their-legal-and-financial-and-PR-woes. It's a really interesting dynamic in the comics they way Tony and Steve work in tandem with these strictly-outlined roles and divisions of labor wrt taking care of all the other Avengers on and off the field.
