My biggest problem is that it's never about the incest. If they were more often shown as being a fucked-up incestuous pairing with emphasis on the fact that their relationship is incestuous and therefore Not Normal and full of issues, rather than "oh yeah they're just a normal couple, and they also happen to be brothers too but that fact doesn't have any impact on their romantic relationship at all," I wouldn't be nearly as averse to Thor/Loki fic.

That's a really good point - and I think you just explained to me why I enjoy the idea of the pairing but get turned off when I see it in execution. Excuse me while I collect the pieces of my blown mind.

I go after Thorki fic like the Cookie Monster goes after Oreos but I gotta say I agree with this. There are lots of AUs where they're never raised as brothers and that's fine, but if they ARE raised as brothers, it kinda needs to come up in fic. I mean Loki is subversive and Thor is easygoing but that is still a pretty big hurdle to just ignore. ... And honestly even when they're okay with it, the thing that drives me up a wall is when everyone around them is like "oh okay no problem!"

(But then again, in the comicverse Pietro and Wanda are apparently an acceptable thing so maybe they're all just way way more open minded than us peons lol)

Wanda and Pietro are only a thing in the Ultimate universe, and the Ultimate universe is a batshit insane fucked-up place that likes to pretend it's gritty and realistic but is actually populated entirely by lunatics and sociopaths with no concept of human behavior. So ehhh....

So much this. The number of times this came up in my fic when I was writing brothercest was... At least once every 1500 words or so. It would have been super, super weird not to play up the incredibly fucked up nature of the pairing, given, well. The incredibly fucked up nature of the pairing.

(Also anon has a bulletproof dirtywrongbrocest kink. *shrug*)

That's, a really good point!

I wish that we had fic that explored that side of Thorki fic. Then perhaps I'd read it, a bit more.

Well, my favorite Thorki fics are the ones where they grow seperately (mainly for the world-building), but when the focus is on Thor and Loki and the Avengers aren't present, you can make the argument that, you know- pagan gods. Incest is not unheard of in mythology.
