I agree on all points. It's weird that the one incest ship that squicks me is the one where the brothers aren't actually blood relations. Maybe because at the beginning of Thor, they were such normal siblings. All my incest ships involve very fucked up people.

Well, I know that I'm personally squicked by it because I find Loki completely repulsive as a person. :/ Do you think maybe it's the result of reactions to characters for you too?

Arguably, at this point in canon a sexual relationship between them would the absolute worst idea ever, and based on hate as much as love. If you're an incest shipper who does it because you see like seeing family bonds reinterpreted as sexual love, or having both at the same time, then this is a horrible failure of an ship for you. Especially since the Loki spends most of his time with Thor trying to ruin the incest kink-y part for you.

Of course I find shipping Loki after he goes evil with anyone incredibly unsettling for some reason, so...yep, might just be projecting this.

I watched Thor all set to ship Thorki, shipping goggles on as tight as I could, and I came out of it shipping...nothing. Which was kind of disappointing because I really wanted to ship Thorki (it has such good fanart...).

Very much not a Thorki shippers - I love them as bros - but I do enjoy the fanart, anyway. A little sad that most of the best Thor fanart is for Thorki and not much going around for other ships, but hey, it's still good art and still enjoyable (and most of it I can look at with super-affctionate!bros goggles, anyway).

I completely get that. I love incest ships, especially brothercest, but I love it because I like brothers who absolutely love each other and are unhealthily co-dependent. But Loki actively treats Thor like shit. I can deal with abusive/one-sided relationships, but somehow not when they're related. I like my incest ships between people who love each other equally, and it squicks me when that's not the case.

Me too! It's not that I dislike or look down on Thor/Loki shippers, but it gives me a strong DNW reaction that doesn't make sense in context with my other ships. Kind of sucks because they're my favorite characters and I'd eat brother fic up with a spoon, but there's not enough of it for me.

Me too, actually. I love both Thor and Loki to bits, and I just really want them to sort things out. In a non-sexual way. I think it's because their fight doesn't remind me of a lover's spat at all, it's a very family thing that I can relate to.

Heh, I'm the complete opposite. I rarely ship incest, especially off the bat, but this ship just hooked me. And it's not because of the "not blood related" part, either. They spent most of their lives thinking they are, that's incest enough for me, but they just... have this chemistry, I guess.

I'm just pretty uninterested in them as a pairing, that's all. I need to at least feel a little bit of an emotional connection to one character in the pairings I read, and I can't connect to Thor or Loki. Now, throw Tony in the mix and everything changes for me. I could read a Thor/Loki/Tony threesome. *g*

I think part of it, for me, is that Loki has no sense of self. He's constantly trying to figure out who he is and where he belongs - whether by trying to be Thor by killing the Frost Giants, or by trying to become an Odin-type figure on Earth. Nothing he's really doing is ever based on his own desires, but rather on him trying to be (warped versions of) other people. So I find it hard to really ship him with anyone in that sense, because he's a completely lost character.

Also, I don't like incest :P

I don't usually ship incest but I ship this (and idk maybe the fact that it wasn't "blood relative" incest helped).

also I didn't ship it at all after watching Thor but the Avengers? Especially that whole lightning scene where Thor first storms in? Hell yes.

My biggest problem is that it's never about the incest. If they were more often shown as being a fucked-up incestuous pairing with emphasis on the fact that their relationship is incestuous and therefore Not Normal and full of issues, rather than "oh yeah they're just a normal couple, and they also happen to be brothers too but that fact doesn't have any impact on their romantic relationship at all," I wouldn't be nearly as averse to Thor/Loki fic.
