I can't say I went through the same thing, since I discovered Evanescence just before they got popular and I was already in my early 20s, but I freely admit that I still like to listen to their music very so often (although for me personally, I didn't care much for The Open Door). I don't care that they're not "proper metal" or whatever...hell, I don't care what kind of band people call them. If something speaks to me, it speaks to me, critics be damned. Besides, I listen to all sorts of music genres. There's plenty of room for them too.
