All this is pretty much why I've been dealing with Avengers fandom with a long-handled spoon. I'm sure I could dive feet-first into it, but then I'd end up clawing my way out after only a little while of this.

Diving into Avengers fandom is a bit like diving into a large bag of white sugar, imo. The superficial tropes are such perfect vintage, id-driven guilty-pleasure material it's really hard not to want a taste, but if you start digging in and sliding into the addictive hole and consume too much of it because it's so appealing and easy to digest, it makes your teeth and stomach ache something fierce and you wonder what on earth were you thinking when you tried it.

Haha, that's a great comparison, and exactly what I fear will happen and turn me off for good (a travesty when there's still media coming out), so I try to ration out Avengers fandom like chocolate, better as a treat than a feast. It helps that the kind of fic I want is the stuff that's hard to find, anyway. I just have to stay away from Steve/Tony, which basically seems like the chocolate cheesecake with whipped cream and chunks of Hershey bars for dinner side of the fandom.
