I only saw about the last fifteen minutes once. I expected it to be this light, fluffy and happy romantic comedy about an angel and a human who fall in love.

And then sudden angst and tragedy when Meg Ryan dies, and I refused to watch the rest of the movie since.

I refused to watch it because it's a remake of a German movie I loved.

I know I shouldn't be a jerk about remakes but with this one I don't get anyone saying "Hey, let's do this one again, set it in Los Angeles, and change the ending!"

I still like the song "Iris" a lot though.

Der Himmel über Berlin? I almost saw that. Should have, from what I hear.

Yes. I really loved it. It's a German art film featuring Peter Falk playing himself, what's not to love?

The beginning of the movie is a little kid getting sick and dying.

It's a pretty effective scene.

We start with her at home and Mom realizing something is very wrong, and end up in the hospital where she's on a table, obviously dying, and Mom is watching and going hysterical, and we pan to the child and Angel Nic as she watches her own death, looks at mom, and says "she doesn't understand."

It's pretty damn good for what it was, though I never saw the original.

It sounds like it really doesn't have very much in common with the original. If Nicholas Cage had said "It's a movie about an angel falling in love with a human that was kind of inspired by Wings of Desire but is totally different," I might have gone to see it and might have liked it.

But unfortunately since I know it's a remake I know I'd spend the whole time thinking about the original, which is probably my favorite movie ever. So... I'm too biased.

the kid says "she won't understand" and the angel says "she will someday"... somehow even thinking about that breaks my heart. I lost a family member this morning and it's making me tear up thinking about it.
