I love how social justice has gone from fighting actual social problems like sexism and homophobia to fighting made-up issues we think the guy on the internet has when he's being a dick.

I love how you think social justice on the internet has ever been about fighting actual social problems.

-facepalm- I meant social justice as a whole. And it used to be that that term wasn't immediately associated with the internet....

Basically this. Most people who are actually interested in social justice devote their energy to working for real-world change and don't waste all their time bitching at people on the internet.

I wonder how many people they've turned away from the cause with their nastiness and us vs. them. More than that, I wonder if any of them can point to a time when nastiness, name calling, and belittling has made someone say "you're right, I'm total garbage, you've converted me."

Hit the nail on the head.

...and that's the sad, and scary thing about all of this. All of this self-hated, dogpiling, and worse is just going to cause a bigger rift.

A white woman hating herself, her history, or her ancestors, isn't going to make this black man feel better about himself....believe me...I know.

No kidding. And I'm starting to see the effects of these Social Justice (adjective that would really offend them, then again, what doesn't offend them?) in my off-net life. Twice now, I've been speaking with middle/upper aged white men and through the conversation, got the vibe that they were desperately trying to communicate to me "I'm not a racist". At that moment, I really sorely wished that some SJW was around with me, because all I wanted to do was say something horrible and cutting to an SJW Bully to meke them feel like curling up and dying. It was a very fleeting thought, but it was intense while I had it. Even now, I try not to think about it because I don't want that urge to come up again. Iunno... recently, I've just been kinda wanting to let one of them have it.

What really irritats me is when the same group will ignore actual injustice. In the same comm where people got mad if you made an "ableist" comment even when it wasn't went on about how deaf people are scary. So it's okay to be ableist when it comes to some things?

tbh my first reaction was this:

(Anonymous) 2012-10-23 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
deaf people are scary? POINT ME AT THEM I WANT TO SEE THEM SOIL THEMSELVES IN FEAR

(Anonymous) 2012-10-23 02:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Not only that, they are getting to the point where they themselves, are becoming a form of hate group.

Also they are beginning to so some real damage to the causes that they claim to support. If a person has a genuine question about race, gender, or sexuality issues and the first thing they hear is "Die you cracker cissie scumbag!", followed with a dogpile and 'calling out' over some unknown infraction. Then we really aren't going to get anywhere, things will only get worse as more people are tuned away.

As a black man, who has been called a white man, like it's an insult, this isn't what I want...I don't know if it's what anyone wants.

It's getting scary out there, really scary.

I'll just...leave this here...

Kinda sums it all up, really.
