It makes me wonder if the movie would have been better if it never changed directors, because the original direct was more concerned with the Mother/daughter relationship then Pixar apparently was.

I wonder that ALL the time. It feels like the film's two different movies that got jammed together.

It was very much two different stories, like they didn't need the villain bear at all and he just tended to distract from the Mother/daughter story.

What pissed me off is that the original director was a woman, and all of a sudden a dudebro took over. (Seriously, the TIME article explained how he stood outside the studios playing with a sword.)

I can understand being annoyed that they kicked off the original director -- but that just sounds adorable.

Nah, I agree with the original comenter because, while that instance may sound cute, what I read about him in the TIME article rubbed me the wrong way. He didn't sound like a completely pleasant person.

If you read the article in full he's actually sounds obnoxious and proud member of Pixar's boys club.

They choose a very odd director to take over for a mother and daughter story that's for sure. He's more an action guy which may be what the movie needed, but it didn't all come together seamlessly, it was very much two visions of a film.

Pixar will claim up and down that sexism had nothing to do with it, but I am 90% sure it did. Especially after hearing some things from a director that works at the company and hearing him call the original film, "A pms tale" (direct quote.)
