If you do not suffer from a severe form of BPD yourself, kindly shut the fuck up. Suicide is only at 20% of bipolar sufferers, and medication is a highly contentious area for those with mental health issues.

da, but 20% is pretty damn high...

but the other anon's comparison is really fucking weird. I have bipolar disorder and if it makes me more "creative" (which... it doesn't), it's utterly useless.

Dude, if you got cancer that had a 20 percent chance of killing you -- and that's not counting indirect suicides, e.g., self-medicating with tobacco/food/alcohol until a chronic disease developed -- no way would you be psyched. Come on.

I didn't realize the figure was 20%. Is that just including people who actually commit suicide, or does it account for people with suicidal urges? Most of the other people with bipolar disorder that I know have struggled with suicidal urges, so 20% for that seems low- but that could just be that I have too small a sample pool (or skewed bias since I've had so many problems with it myself).

Actual suicides. Not all bipolar sufferers are suicidal, though, and there are certainly instances where antidepressants (bipolar treatment usually includes an upper and a mood stabilizer) have caused suicide, so the numbers may be skewed because of that.

Ah, thanks.
