Pop/upbeat music recs?

(Anonymous) 2012-10-23 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
So, my mom does scrapbooking, and she's hosting a big weekend thing for a bunch of people to get together and scrapbook with her. And she needs background music, of the sort of trite repetitive pop nonsense that gets played five times an hour on the radio.

Now, I don't actually know much of this type of music, because I have taste. But the thing is, it makes great background work music because it's upbeat and has (mostly) non-offensive lyrics

Any recs? I was trying MLP fandom music, because it's all basically free, but there isn't a whole lot of pop there, or at least none that I can find. And obviously a room full of 40- or 50- or 60-something women don't think MLP is cool or interesting. Which is a long way to say, please help?

Psst, I think you might scare off your potential helpers by indirectly accusing them of having no taste... ;P

Can't you just put the radio on?

Anything covered by Glee. Either the glee versions or the originals will work. Most of the Warbler songs (I think there's an abulm or two just for Warbler songs) are played on the radio/in department stores so I guess it's supposed to be good working music, but personally I find it puts me to sleep. Maybe they'll be okay with it though? I'm assuming you'll run it by your mom.

Ashley Tisdale's album Headstrong and the song Shake It Up by Selena Gomez might work. (And possibly others by them, those are just the ones I've listened to). I don't think Kylie Minogue is too offensive but it's pretty suggestive. The only album of hers I've listened to extensively is Fever.

Also this work of beauty.

It's a concept album, a good noir soundtrack.

Yeah I was originally just gonna rec all the homestuck music but OP seemed to be asking for bad or at least mediocre stuff. The "taste" comment confused me.

A majority of indie rock fits that description. Good luck!

Hey, next time you ask for advice/help, try not to sound like such a superior dick.

Oh, tell us about what good taste you have, anon.

You should've just said it the short way: "I'm a dick whose musical tastes are superior to everyone else's, thus I don't know what kind of crap the plebs listen to. I'm too lazy to Google the top songs on the pop charts right now, so do it for me."

This is kind of how NOT to ask for help or recs. =P
