I half-agreed with you until that last sentence.

Let me explain.

I half agree because if we stay in the comics' world, what you say makes sense. Some of those powers are very self-destructive and dangerous. If the person chose to live without them it would be great for them to have that option.

On the other hand, mutants have always been a metaphor for real life minorities. Thus, a "cure" sounds really fucking racist/homophobic/etc. when you extend the metaphor.

Also, I object to the way you use the term normal, thus implying mutants are abnormal, as in wrong somehow. It is not mutants who should become normal but the term normal should change to include mutants. I feel this way mostly because if the previously mentioned metaphor.

So... yeah.

Plus if you view mutation as an evolutionary leap...they are normal, the new normal, and everyone else the aberration.

Hmm, you could, but I still like the more inclusive one simply because otherwise you're excluding non-mutants.

Of course, just because they could be seen as the "next step" also doesn't exclude non-mutants from still being a viable species. Since evolution is less like Pokémon and more like... (Oh shit my simile is breaking down.) a game that uses evolution to increase diversity.

The only way mutants could truly be the "next step" is if there's a bottlenecking incident that non-mutants are disadvantaged against.

I'm sorry, I'm thinking way too hard about this. Ignore me.

Mutation doesn't really work that way--they're only an evolutionary plus if being a mutant better allows you to survive and breed. Which is obviously not the case for, say, Rogue.
