You...you just want to be mad now, don't you? If Tony and Thor are only there for "eyecandy and manpain" surely that's all that Natasha is there for as well. Surely that's all anyone's there for! Who cares about any of the characters! Hoorah, we've found the secret! Movie solved.

Also, eyecandy and manpain that pretty is totally worth it ;)

And...uh....Natasha kinda has manpain too, even if she's a woman. Probably more manpain than Tony and Thor, because it's not like she actually needs to fix her fuckups herself to stop anyone from getting hurt. And her angst is the same inner guilt and demons and personal responsibility and drive to redeem herself. Which, you know, is kind of a really, really GOOD trope in fiction when it's not done in a wangsty way. There's a reason it's a cliche.
