Re: Skinny Minnie Controversy

This is stupid. Everything is exaggerated in cartoons, it's a stylistic choice. Not to mention that kids don't see these things the way adults do. Their perception of proportions and mass isn't as polished as an adult's. If the point is that the characters are too skinny, how are they gonna get that point across without overexaggerating the skinniness?

The reason they are sticks was because the designers said *their* dresses would not look good on Minnie's figure. It was not a stylistic choice.

Who's going to tell that to a kid though? I mean yeah it's creepy of the designers but I doubt it's in the animation or in a forward saying "The designers made us to this."

It's just a weird Psychedelic dream sequence if you don't have any context.

The 'dream sequence' is Minnie daydreaming about being 'prettied up' and 'fabulous'. I'm pretty sure a child will understand that Minnie had to lose much of her weight+gain a few feet just to look "pretty". Kids aren't as clueless as you'd like to think they are. Minnie isn't even a fat character, she's an average build. With so much of the media telling girls+preteens that their bodies are not okay-this is just another slap in the face.
