Where do people say this? When I hear people talk about Pepper, it's mostly love. Maybe I've been lucky?

Anyway, they're both great characters and I don't see why it has to be a 'one or the other' kind of thing. They're both awesome and strong in their own ways. *shrugs*

And as much as I love Peggy, I don't see how Steve/Peggy could happen now. It's tragic, but I've accepted it.

Probably the pit that is the kink meme. Also, she gets heavy criticism for the fact that her life seems to revolve around Tony. (Never mind that it doesn't. She has friends and went to that banquet by herself in the first movie, she put her foot down in the second, she runs a damn business in Avengers.)

Me and the kink meme aren't on good terms. Not because of wank or anything (I'm clueless about that), but because it's hard to find content that interests me on it; I pretty much ignore it. If Pepper hate is going on over there...that's sad. (Though I guess it's bound to happen somewhere. No character is universally loved.)

And I don't get that argument at all. Is Tony a huge part of her life? Sure. But she's certainly her own person, and she seems to have her own interests outside of him.

I've never seen Pepper hate on the kinkmeme that I can recall -- pretty much nothing but love, actually, and an impressive amount of it! There was that whole "OT8" (Avengers + Coulson + Pepper) thing going on strong too for a while, although that might have died out by now...

I've mainly only seen Pepper-hate on tumblr, and mainly for the crime of not having some mysterious magical quality that only Steve possesses.

Lmao! So she's hated because she gets in the way of people's favorite pairing? I know it happens, but...that's unfortunate. You can ship without hating!

Actually, most of the Pepper-hate I've seen on the kinkmeme have just been because of her slutshaming comments against Christine.

To be honest, I kinda got the impression people built her up into some perfect goddess in their heads, and when they realized she isn't above using female sexuality as barbs against someone (like most American women are, regardless of their views on female sexuality), they got really damn harsh on her for not being perfect anymore.

That's when Pepper felt like Christine was belittling her job, right? Pepper was perfectly friendly before that, though I do agree she shouldn't have used that particular comeback; that was a low blow. So I don't see anything wrong with her standing up for herself, but the way she did so was unfortunate; she should've found a different way. That moment was nasty (for both participants).

I wasn't even going to touch the American comment... But I'll just say I think slutshaming is more of a human problem than one of female Americans; men and women of all different races engage in it.

Really? I thought even the Fan Dumb section of Bruce/Tony fans were a lot more open to Pepper than usual. It's the Fan Dumb section of Steve/Tony fans that really hate her. Because the Steve/Tony fans want to make Tony into such a horribly broken tortured nonfunctional trainwreck of a human being that only Steve's Angelic Dick of Pure Goodness can fix him enough to make him not try to commit suicide all the time, and Pepper, being just an ordinary woman, is just another jackass who treats Tony like crap for no reason.

The Fan Dumb section of Bruce/Tony fans are usually Rhodey-bashers. Because, you know, a guy Tony knew for two days is a soooooooo much better friend than a guy who knew him for two decades.

(I utterly adored Tony and Bruce's friendship in the movie, but jfc...)

Lucky you. I've seen so much "omg Bruce is the first real friend Tony's ever had!" NOPE. "omg Rhodey's so mean for stealing Tony's armor" NOPE. "omg he only associates with Tony because it's his job" NOPE. Jesus fuck, it pisses me off.

Oh, I'm sorry you mean like Rhodey did in IM2? Or how Rhodey spent MONTHS looking for Tony when he went missing in the first movie? Or did you skim that part, fandom?

If someone genuinely dislikes her for other reasons than 'she gets in the way of my favorite ship' then...whatever. I don't have to agree.

But I never get why people need to tag their hate. Again, if they want to have an actual discussion about certain aspects of her character or something, then I could understand it...

But if it's just insults? DNW and uncalled for.

I thought she was very badly handled in IM2. She went from IM implying she handled everything for Tony that had to do with Stark Industries, to... being unable to handle everything in Stark Industries now that she was signing her name, not Tony's?

Though I suppose if she was taking over his work and Stane's that would be a little more understandable, but they didn't really make that clear if she was.

But that's thinking IM2 was bad, and I'd rather shrug and pretend those parts didn't happen in IM2 than see it as 'proof' she's a bad character.
