Hahah I should tell my roommate to do that. He was really upset the whole time that he couldn't. "I wouldn't have done any of this! I would have gotten out of Dubai already!"

I theorize that even though it's never really talked about, his tour in Afghanistan had Walker fucked up to begin with. A rational person would have gotten out, but he already wasn't rational and was trying to be a hero.

I think that's... canon? Or at least a very reasonable deduction, based on the evidence. (There's also the director's interview, where he pointed out that one interpretation could also be that Walker and Konrad died in Afghanistan had fucked them up, and this is Walker's own personal hell. Hence the surreal timeskip intro, the billboards with Konrad's face, the constant - and impossible - "descent", and the Walker's "welcome to Dubai, gentlemen" said to, well, dead dudes.)
