the word 'receipts'?

(Anonymous) 2012-10-24 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
Why are people using the word receipts in place of citations? I've just recently noticed it...

Generally speaking, we on the internets aim to make the sense of a variety that is none, that is to say, if we are speak in a manner which is to confuse you, forgive our confusedness.

I'm not sure I've seen that, but I assume it's just people trying to be cute and as long as it's limited to informal contexts on the internet, I don't think it's a problem.

Whitney Houston did an interview some years back and the interviewer brought up the rumors about her doing crack. Whitney denied it and said "I wanna see the receipts!" for the crack she supposedly bought, among other things. So now in slang terms: receipts = proof.

Just slang is all. Kind of like "pressed", "stans", "feels", etc.

Because of Whitney Houston. I like "sauce" a bit more.
