There's eyecandy for everyone. Why would they bother to do anything to jeopardize sex appeal?

I think I've been at the tumblr tag too long, but I've seen this one before a dozen times too.

It would have been cool, yes, but it's still good now. *shrug* Hey, maybe Moriarty will be a woman! I've seen people fancasting Gina Torres as a 'Jane Moriarty' and I think that'd be a great idea.

:/ Seriously? I'm all for more female characters but why is the show lesser for keeping Sherlock a man?

Personally, I just kinda wonder what the reverse would be like. You know, Watson as a dude and Sherlock as a chick.

I wish Sherlock were the lady and Watson the dude, because I could see Lucy Liu playing a kick ass Sherlock.

But oh, well. I like the show, and someday in the future I'm sure they'll make both characters ladies.

She would be kickass in that role.

So... next year?

Next year? That'd be fantastic. I think the shitstorm would be too big, though.

I'd say 3-5 years.

True, true.

And this time they'll both be Canadians.

I'd love to see this. I'm a fan of the show as it is, but this would be a lot of fun to see.

I wished they would have made them both female when I first heard about the show. I do prefer full-on gender swapping if you are going to do it. Buuuuut, I'm loving the guy who plays Sherlock so much that I can't really complain too much any more.

That would've been awesome, but personally I also think it's pretty cool that they're doing a show with male-female leads that appears to be going to stay entirely platonic. On top of that, I remember reading something about how they made Watson a woman in this series specifically to deal with Holmes' sexism, which is (as I understand, haven't gotten to reading most of the original stories yet, sorry!) an element of his character in the original canon. They've already had him say a bunch of awful things to her and she refuses to take any of his shit, and he's actually apologized to her about it and tried to improve which is great. So while I would like to see something with a female Holmes and Watson, I think this show is plenty "progressive" in a different way.

Incidentally, it's not stellar writing-wise, but if you're interested in a crime show with a female cop pairing you could check out Beauty and the Beast. I watched the pilot because I just like Kristin Kreuk but it surprised me with how much I enjoyed her character's friendship and banter with her partner Nina. I mean, the "beast" element of the story is boring as hell, IMO, but to me it's worth it for the lady cop partners. :D

Wait... really? I actually may watch this show if this happens. That's cool.

Yes! Like in the most recent episode (1x03) he basically tells her "oh you don't have to actually talk to me when I talk out loud, talking helps me think things through, basically you are just a brick wall which I can bounce my ideas off of" and then later he asks her a question and she's like "sorry, were you talking to me? I thought I was just a sounding board" and it was great. (That's not word-for-word, of course, it was more awesomely said in the actual episode, but you get the idea.) And then in an earlier episode she says "I made coffee" and he holds out his mug expecting her to pour it for him, and she just kind of rolls her eyes and says "It's over here when you want it." And he straight-up apologizes to her in the pilot for treating her like a maid or something (I can't remember the exact context but it happened and it was glorious). So yeah, it's pretty great. :D

I hope you enjoy it! The cases aren't anything mindblowing, but I'm enjoying what they're doing with Holmes and Watson so much that it doesn't matter.

I'm loving Nina, she seems clever, supportive, funny and tough. I hope that she gets even more screen time as the show goes continues.

an element of his character in the original canon

Iirc, it was. Though you could make an argument that it was a product of his time [the victorean era was not known for it's regard for women]. Though it does annoy me a little with how some people I've run across like to cite Addler as 'proof' he wasn't really sexist, since that just completely ignores the fact that the only reason he had any regard for her was *after* she managed to out smart him.

"especially since they're not going down the romance road" So, unless they "go down the romance road" you think there shouldn't even be a man on the team? Interesting.

Re: too big

I think they meant that selling a lesbian lead couple would be harder than selling a show about two women solving crime in a platonic way. So since the romance aspect isn't even going to be considered between the characters, it wouldn't be hard to sell two ladies, so why not?
