Do you associate songs with the scene or vid you first heard them in?

(Anonymous) 2012-10-24 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I will forever associate "Hallelujah" with Kirk/Spock and "Rolling in the Deep" with Charles/Erik, because I first heard the songs in fanvids about those couples. Same with Coldplay's "Viva la Vida" and the Ninth and Tenth Doctor. And P!nk's "Cuz I Can" with Tony Stark.

Whenever I hear Massive Attack's "Angel", I think of the fourth season finale of The West Wing, whenever I hear "How To Save A Life" I think of that scene from Scrubs, and whenever I hear Pigeonhead's "Battleflag" I think of the Valentine's day stabbing in ER.

Sometimes. If I heard the song in the video first I'm more likely to, but it goes away if I listen to the song without watching the video for a while. Though for the longest time when I heard Simon Curtis's 'Superhero' I thought of Madoka Magica.

Yes, "Rolling in the Deep" will always be about Charles/Erik. "Without Me" will always be about Lilah Morgan. "1234" will always be about Michael Fassbender cuddling a bear. Any Flobots song is about BSG (and "Cuz I Can" is about Starbuck in Season 3, dammit!).

I heard "Summon You" by Spoon on an episode of Scrubs and said, "But that's about Tony and Steve!" My roommie side-eyed me.

At this point, I only download songs based on hearing them in vids. I have no idea what the popular Top 40 are nowadays (unless it's in a vid of course).

Jesus Christ this. *shivers*

yes

Tegan and Sara's The First will always be associated with BTVS since I first heard it via fanvid. And so many more. Fanvids are where I've discovered a ton of great new music, which is cool, but then whenever I listen to the songs it always makes me think of the vid that I discovered the band in.

Five billion Scrubs songs. And now I cry at "Highway to Hell" because of How I Met Your Mother.

By the way, that Tony Stark "Cuz I Can" vid and that Charles/Erik "Rolling in the Deep" vid are made by the same person. ;)

Ohhhh, yes. Fanvids are the primary way I find new music. I have purchased... I think six albums because of fanvid-related discoveries, and many more individual songs.

I still associate Nightwish's "The Kinslayer" with "The Big Game"/"Revelations", which is especially impressive as I think that particular vid is no longer available. Mumford & Son's "The Cave" is tied to White Collar. Unkle's "Broken" is tied to the Winchesters, and Arcade Fire's "Windowsill" is Sam Winchester. "The Trouble With Poets" is Methos and Duncan (I don't even remember the artist, it's the only thing by him I own). "Fields of Innocence" from Evanescence's first album is Drusilla. "Peacekeeper" is Aeryn Sun, "Fly From the Inside" is John Crichton. There are more I can't think of just yet...

Ooh, Windowsill! Yes, I'll never hear that song without thinking of Sam Winchester.

So er...sometimes, yes. Not always, but usually.

Oh yeah. The ones that I particularly remember are all the songs from the AMVs that were housed on Temple of Trunks (in realplayer!) way back when.

Not sure if this one was specifically from there, but to this day I keep thinking Heart of Sword from the Kenshin soundtrack is actually a DBZ song, because of the one AMV, and I always look for it in the wrong folder on my computer.

Normally I make up my own stories to songs with my own characters.

However, I remember one time I was influence by a source of fiction was when I saw Dream Girl by Dave Matthews Band. (I know, I know, guilty pleasure.) I imagined all of the band members + the actress as the characters from Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles. The actress was Sakura, Syaoran was the singer, Mokona was the hot guy making breakfast, Kurogane was the guy asking if she was all right, Fai was the guy in the church. I can't remember who I made toothbrush guy.

Who would you guys make toothbrush guy?

"Closer" will always be the Kirk/Spock Pon Farr song to me.

U2's "Walk On" from Roswell's second season finale. Actually MOST songs/scenes from that show. I can't even watch the DVDs because they changed most of the songs. Good thing I taped everything.

So...do you have a link to that Tony Stark video? XD

The youtube version was deleted, but you can watch it embedded in the maker's lj here:

(I just love this vis because at first it's played as incredibly on-the-nose -- the lyrics could have literally been written for Tony if he was a girl -- but then a whole different spin is applied to it. Deee-licious ;))

Toy-Box's "Tarzan and Jane" will forever make me think of Nighcrawler and Toad from X-Men Evolution.

Yup! It's almost always the crack that sticks though.

What Makes You Beautiful = Sherlock/John
Don't Rain on My Parade = Loki
Kick Ass (We Are Young) = Tony Stark

"Illuminated" and "Inertia Creeps", Arthur/Eames forever, I didn't even have a choice in this. "Spin" by Lifehouse belongs to Spike/Julia. "The Promise" by Tracy Chapman is Pezzini/Nottingham (not remotely the song I would have chosen for them, but goddamn it gave me so many feels). "All I Wanted" by Michelle Branch for Chihiru/Haku was locked in my head by an AMV ages ago. "What Hurts The Most" is Kisame/Itachi. Man.
