TBH, that's what I love about him. Peeta's just a decent, kind guy trying to get by. In any other hunger games, he'd have died and his niceness would have made no difference at all in the scheme of things.

As it happens, a lot of factors come together and he gets caught up in events bigger than him. He plays an important part in them - not because he plans to, or because he's special or destined, but just because through pure chance and luck that's how things work out.

That's sort of the point.

Yes I agree with you. I didn't like the tacked on ending to the whole thing, it reminded me of Harry Potter, but I think the story would have been entirely different if Peeta had been killed off, his character is integral.
