SPOILERS FOR ALL 3 BOOKS

Wasn't the whole reason that President Snow had a hardon for Katniss because both lived? Had she been the only one who survived, Katniss would have most likely just gone back to living the status quo. I expect the quarter quell would also not have been what is was, thus making it hard for D13 to break them out and start the revolution.

This! The author probably could have still continued the series if Peeta had died, but the other two books would've probably gone in an entirely different direction.

It would be a pretty interesting idea for an AU, now that I think about it.

(Thanks for that lovely mental image of President Snow with a hardon for Katniss, though. Did you mean to write "hate-on"?)
