I feel the same way about Gale, to be honest. Different strokes, folks. Different strokes.

Yeah, if the reason to get rid of Peeta is to scrap the love triangle, I'd must rather ditch Gale.

Gale was independently interesting from Katniss, though... he had his own motives and goals, his own feelings about the situation. Peeta was just like "Katniss! Katniss! Katniss!" So while Gale's feelings in the second book started the triangle for real, Peeta was the one basically there for the romance. I don't recall him ever doing anything that didn't directly correlate to Katniss in some way.

It reminds me of in the film, at the end when they're about to eat the nightlock, and he says "together" and plays with her braid while Katniss is looking up at the sky. All his focus was ever on her, her, her. Her focus was on the Capitol. When they returned home, Katniss is beaming at her mother, sister, and Gale, watching longingly at the other people in her life. Peeta is just staring at Katniss and trying to grab her hand. Like... uuuuugh.

Gale is basically a male version of Katniss. Peeta is different and that's what makes him interesting to me.
