Re: COMPLETELY SERIOUS QUESTIONS

DA

I love Scott and hate all the negativity toward him, too - especially calling him "potato". :/

When was it mentioned that he was a good student before getting bitten, though? I thought he was always on the average/below average scale, and it tipped after the bite, but I never saw his grades as a reason to hate him, regardless, since he's such a sweetheart. In fact, he's one half of MY OTP, but I just don't recall it being mentioned in canon that he had good grades before?

If you could fill me in, that would be awesome. Since he's one of my favorites, I tend to write him a lot, and more insight into his character from details I missed would help. Thanks! :)

in the scene where you see the grade on a test he is handed back (sorry, i don't recall the episode) it says right in red on the top of the paper THIS ISN'T LIKE YOU, or something similar, implying that getting bad grades is abnormal and worries the teacher. but of course most people don't seem to notice that....they only notice that he got a bad grade.

also, and this is something that you could argue for or against, he is in the same math class as lydia. i imagine that lydia would be in a math class that is the higher level choice (for example, in my HS it was normal to take algebra I in freshman year, but if you wanted to you could take one level math higher). if he is on par with lydia clearly he is not 'below average'. but again that is more fanon than canon.

Ooh, this is really cool meta material, anon. You should write up a meta post on LJ or tumblr, so people can see that there's more to Scott! I do vaguely remember the 'this isn't like you', but I forgot in the flurry of plot. I didn't even think of the math class; that's how my HS was, too!

Off Topic - but what is your OTP? I actually really like Scott/Allison but I am interested in the Scott/Issac dynamic.

*high five*

I think Scott/Allison and Scott/Isaac are both adorable, and sometimes I OT3 them, but since Isaac's actually my favorite character, and OTP is one true pairing, Scott/Isaac. I really do love way too many pairings, though. XD

On that note (not to you, but in general): I hate the Allison hate. :(

Issac is my favorite new character of season 2. Plus he is a perfection British god in real life, so anything that makes him appear on my TV screen with regularity is pretty awesome.

I am cool with Scott/Isaac - but I do tend to lean more towards Scott/Allison just because they are beautiful and precious together. I just watched the episode where they skip class for her birthday and they're just adorable.

And I hate Allison hate also. She is one of my favorite characters, and while I agree that her turning was handled a bit too quickly - her mother had just killed herself and her creepy grandfather was living with her and isolating her from the only friends she made in Beacon Hills. She was due to go a little bit crazy there.

Did you know that Allison and Isaac are dating in real life?

I like Scott/Allison, so I like watching them in canon, and reading Scott/Isaac. XD

I can absolutely get behind this.

This is why I like fandom and don't the need to stalk the producers and actors and advocate for my ship. I am perfectly content to live with Sterek and Scissac in fandom.

I do think it'd be awesome if there was a canon queer relationship, but I'm not particular. I don't really care if it's my OTP. If Danny and Isaac started going out, or if Erica dated another woman, I think it'd be really cool, since they both give me bi vibes. XD

I would absolutely be behind a canon gay or bi character, especially since the show has made it seem everyone is super accepting there! And there need to be more of those kinds of relationships on television.

I just don't need my ships to become canon in order to enjoy the show. That fandom has begun to actively break down the fourth wall between them makes me actively break out in hives.

100% agreement here. In fact, I like the nuances of a non-canon relationship, but I bet some "hystereks" would pitch a fit even if we got both a gay and lesbian relationship that wasn't sterek, despite all their "sterek is for gay rights" BS.

Oh most definitely. The teenaged Sterek fans on tumblr will burn shit or something. (And possibly some of the adults). 90% of Sterek fandom makes me feel embarrassed on a daily basis.

Especially since Sterek is not a gay rights thing. Yes. We need more lgtbq characters on television portrayed in a positive light. But I'm all for making it other characters and leaving Sterek to live on in fanfiction.

No problem! I know there are a lot of people who feel the same way we do, they are just hard to find sometimes!

I really do love talking about Teen Wolf fandom and it's positive and negative traits with rational people. It's ridiculously interesting to watch from afar, which is where I am most comfortable.

How is making so lgbt pairing canon a gay rights issue but not Sterek? Kinda curious at you logic.

Re: COMPLETELY SERIOUS QUESTIONS

[personal profile] themperor 2012-10-26 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Hm. I hope this makes sense. I think it is a complicated issue and I may have worded my last response wrong.

I do not think that if Sterek does not become canon it would be MTV or producers or Davis working against gay rights. But that is often how it is protrayed in tumblr fandom. What you don't ship Sterek - you hate gay people. You don't think they are true loves and Teen Wolf has been secretly trying to tell us that - you are a horrible person.

Not this is not everyone in the fandom. At. All. But some I have seen the crazy part of the fandom get upset about other lgtbq characters being introduced or getting love interests and the fandom flipping their shits. There is, to me and others, a big difference between creating lgtbq characters and making them well-rounded people with love interests as opposed to just caving to fandom.

Especially since at this moment, I think if Sterek would become canon it wouldn't be because Teen Wolf is supporting gay relationships, but instead trying to shore up more support from an emotionally invested fandom.

And I find that much of that fandom is not exactly about supporting same sex couples, but instead are very interested in watching two insanely attractive men (and two of the fan favorites) make out. Which, I should say, I have no problem with in the general idea of life. I read Sterek fanfiction for part of that reason. But I would argue that men who watch girl on girl porn aren't watching it because they want marriage equality for all or are looking to show support for lesbian relationships. People who want to watch two hot men kiss and flirt are not always in it because they support them running away to Vermont and adopting babies from China. (I do happen to support gay rights. Completely. But it's not the driving reason why I read slash fanfiction)

Also, Sterek at this moment. Would be a horrible couple. They don't like each other. They barely stand each other. They are on an uneasy truce because of deadly circumstances.

So. I hope that makes sense. I just don't think that making Sterek canon itself is a gay rights issue, but part of a larger issue in which relationship equality should be figured in. Just because Sterek doesn't mean that Teen Wolf is against gay people. And just because Sterek does happen does it mean I think MTV is supportive of the 'gay agenda'

Yeah. I think when most teen wolf fans look a gay character they are looking for a main character to be gay as opposed to a side character with minimal screen time!
